- This camp on the Butterfield
mail route in San Diego County was occupied by General Stephen
W. Kearny in 1846 on his march to San Diego and the Battle of
San Pasqual. In 1865, Company
D, 7th Infantry, California Volunteers, left Drum Barracks on April 4 enroute for Fort
Yuma and Tubac, Arizona Territory. On the ninth day out they
were encamped at San Felipe.
