Fort Gass

Although listed on several topographic maps since 1902, “Fort Gass” was never established as a military installation or civilian trading post. The supposed post was located atop Palo Verde Peak in Imperial County (33º 19’ 46” North, 114º 46’ 37.5” West). Research conducted by Mr. R. Newton of the Fort Gaston Historical Society located in Palo Verde, CA concludes that the post did not exist. Historical documentation is located at the California State Military Museum’s Maj. Gen. Walter P. Story Memorial Library.
