Organized in the California Army National Guard and Federally recognized 18 May 1955 at Alameda as Separate Detachment, 249th Signal Company, an element of the 49th Infantry Division

Reorganized and redesignated 1 May 1959 as Company A, 49th Signal Battalion, an element of the 49th Infantry Division

Reorganized and redesignated 29 January 1968 as the 249th Signal Company; concurrently, relieved from assignment to the 49th Infantry Division

HOME STATION: Alameda (less one platoon at Vallejo and one platoon at San Diego)
