The U.S. Naval Hospital site is located at 5901 E. 7th Street, Long Beach, California at the northeast corner of E. 7th Street and Bellflower Boulevard.

The U.S. Navy acquired this site through purchase on 25 September 1941. The Navy constructed a 300-bed hospital which was completed in 1942. The hospital facility was subsequently expanded to approximately 1800 beds with the addition of temporary and permanent wards plus a dependent's hospital. The hospital facility was used to provide general clinical and hospitalization services to meet the Navy's requirements in this area for shore activities and fleet units. Services were also provided for Navy dependents. The U.S. Naval Hospital, Long Beach was also one of the main teaching hospitals of the Navy. The hospital and property were transferred to the Veterans Administration on 1 June 1950.
 
Many of the original hospital structures are still in place and in use by the Veterans Administration. Most of the expansion structures including all of the ward additions were torn down and replaced by the Veterans Administration.

On 25 September 1941, the U.S. Navy purchased 100.31 acres of land in Long Beach, California from the Bixby family Rancho Los Alamitos holdings.

The Navy constructed a hospital which was completed in 1942. The Navy used the hospital facility to provide general clinical and hpspitalization services to meet their requirements in the
Long Beach area for shore activities and fleet units.

The administrative control, custody, and jurisdiction of the hospital and 100.31 acres of land were transferred to the Veterans Administration on 1 June 1950 at the request and direction of the President of the United States and the Secretary of Defense. The Hospital facility is still in use and operated by the Veterans Administration for the care of-U.S. military veterans. Many of the original hospital structures are still in place. All remaining Navy improvements have been used beneficially by the Veterans Administration.
