Symbolism: The shield is red for artillery. The castle is for service during the War with Spain; the palm tree is for the Philippine Insurrection and the wreathed fleur-de-lis commemorates service in World War I. The shield is that of the 250th Coast Artillery Regiment withing a red and yellow border to represent the descent from the 2d Battalion of that organization.
