Symbolism: The shield is red for Artillery. The ship an the canton were taken from the coat od arms of the old 251st Coast Artillery Regiment and commemorate the descent from that organization. The ship is representative of that of Don Juan Rodriguez Cabrillio, a Portuguese explorer who discovered San Diego Harbor
