Centennial: 100 Years - From the Depths - SEAPOWER
In
so much as the Secretary of the Navy has designated the year
2000 as a Centennial Celebration to commemorate the collective
history and heritage of the Submarine Force.
The Submarine Centennial serves to recognize the great personal
sacrifices and heroic acts of the Submarine Force throughout
the past century. Due to the highly classified nature of submarine
operations, for the most part their contributions have gone unheralded.
More decorations of valor have been awarded, per man, to the
men who have served this country in the Submarine Service than
any other Navy branch.
Given the State of California's long standing relationship with
the U.S. Navy and its Submarine Force, and in recognition of
the enormous contributions that our Submarine Service has performed
throughout the past 100 years, the State of California is pleased
to join in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the U.S.
Submarine Force.
This year, as the U.S. Navy's Submarine Force surfaces to celebrates
its 100th anniversary, the California Center For Military History,
Naval Detachment, is proud to present a series of original articles
focused on Submarines.
We hope you will enjoy this glimpse into the proud history and
tradition of the U.S. Submarine Force."
