HISTORY TAKES CENTER STAGE AT TORRANCE ARMED FORCES DAY CELEBRATION

- LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. -- The Center For
Militay History -- Southern Region, under the command of Colonel
Eric Martens, was a major participant in Armed Forces Day observances
in Torrance, Calif., on the weekend of May 20-21.

- The Torrance Armed Forces Day observances,
a Southern California tradition for 41 years and one of the biggestin
the nation, featured a parade and military displays throughout
the weekend.
-
- CMH-South soldiers assembled and staffed
a large display that featured historical military equipment --
including a fully-operable 75mm pack howitzer and other vintage
weapons -- World War II Army Air Corps flight gear, assorted
uniforms, decorations and insignia. Rounding out the presentation
were displays featuring U.S. presidents who served inthe military,
plus Black and Hispanic military history.

- Many artifacts on display came from the
personal collections of Colonel Martens, Major Tom Nott, Second
Lieutenant Mark Susuki
and Staff Sergeant Daniel Whitney, who were on hand throughout
the weekend to answer questions and explain the historical significance
of each item.
