Do You Shop Online? You Can Help the Museum Without Spending Anything More.

Online shoppers can help the museum and its programs by just shopping! Selected merchants and service providers and agreed to provide a percentage of their profits to support museums. These are major merchants such as eBay, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc. We have chosen two excellent organizations to provide our supporters the widest number of vendors and services available. Please make sure that you designate the California State Military Museum as the recipient of your gift.

Museum Receives Grant for Educational Facility: The California State Military Museum received a $500 grant from The USAA Foundation for the acquisition or upgrading of audiovisual equipment and other improvements to the Sergeant Major Doris Drennan Education and Conference Facility. When completed, this room located on the second floor of the museum building will provide a state of the art training facility for not only military organizations, put also civilian public safety organizations. Private industry may use the facility for an hourly charge plus equipment rental. These funds will be used to fund further improvements to the facility or for museum conservation, restoration or acquisition programs. (24 Apr 08)

Officers Commissioned at Museum. The United States Army’s newest officers were sworn in at a ceremony held at the California State Military Museum on 4 January 2008. Second Lieutenants Jesse H. Davidson (a former member of the 115th Regional Support Group), Daniel R. Jenkins, and Timothy J. Soh were sworn in by LTC Mark Connelly, Professor of Military Science at the University of California at Davis. The ceremony included a key-note address from COL Robert M. Visbal, the Senior Army Advisor to the California National Guard.

Book Drive a Success. The California State Military Museum’s MG Walter P. Story Library and Research Center’s annual book dive was a huge success this year. The library received over 2,000 books during the months of October through December. Major donors included Professor Karl von den Steinen, Sacramento State University; Professor Carlos Lopez, Menlo College; and MG William Wade II, the Adjutant General. While there were some duplicates (which are sold or traded to obtain new titles), quite a few were very rare reference books worth hundreds of dollars each.

Although the official book drive is over for the year, the library will always accept tax-deductible donations of military history and national security books and magazines. Military units are encouraged to send obsolete field and technical manuals to the library. The mailing address of the library is: MG Walter Story Library and Research Center, California State Military Museum, 1119 Second Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
