Camp Sigel
Company I, 4th
Infantry, California Volunteers, was raised in Nevada City
and mustered into the armed forces at Camp Sigel near Auburn,
Placer County, on October 7, 1861. The company abandoned Camp
Sigel in February 1862 and marched to Camp Union.
